When beginning your own vermicomposting system / worm bin, in a country with wild weather fluctuations like Canada, sometimes simply purchasing cocoons rather than live worms is the more reliable option. Why? Because extreme weather conditions will not affect them during transports. Simply place the bedding material (which holds the small cocoons) into your moist environment, and within 2-3 weeks you will see the small European Nightcrawlers (Dendrobaena hortensis)  hatching!
